spares world does the comma oil £16.25 15/40 semi-synth. hade to laugh at a guy putting in 20/50 motorway oil in his 2.2 astra turbo the other day as i was there as it was THE CHEAPEST.0

Quantum do 10/40 5 lites for £18 although i think its only suitable for VAG brands.0

Looking at some of the prices for oil I am very glad for my Costco card.
I have used GM oil before and it has a decent spec.
Quantum is another decent oil.
Though I believe that GSF now supply Carlube solely, did use CarLube on the last oil change on the wifes Clio, as stupidly didn't have time to get to Renault or Costco.
But luckliy i had bougth two oil filters from Renault previously.
What car do you have OP, then perhaps you can get some more exact advice, lots of posters on here have many different makes of car, it is likely that some body has the same car as you do.0 -

Thats the recycled crap i was talking about!!
Why somebody looks to save a tenner on something that is so vitaland needs so little attention in the grand scheme of things always surprises me.
I used to get Formula E Ford oil for the Mondeo, 4 for the price of 2 at the local Ford dealer, Allen Ford in Lakeside.
But lately I have decided to go back to Mobil 1 on both cars, to offset the costs I am extending my usual change interval from 6000 miles to 7500 miles, yes some may think I am wasting money, but everybody has to have a hobby, mine is servincing the cars properly.
I would rather spend money on a decent servicing schedule than repairs.:D0 -
Yup, Kilty's right. The cheap oil has its place. Some very old cars, that were designed for 15W40 in the first place, are OK with the 20W50 stuff if the seals are old and perished etc.
Indeed on some older vehicles the £20/gallon top brand stuff is a complete waste of money. The Daewoo's slight oil leak stopped when I downgraded the car to 15W40, and it suffered no ill-effects.
That said, I have Comma 10W40 and 5W30 in the shed for top-ups. Not worth skimping on engines with plenty of life left.0 -
6 months ago I was looking for oil to top between changes. I have two modern diesels, one of which needs the GM spec 5/30.
Did loads of digging eventually went to my local motor factors -who supply the local independent garages around here.
Carlube for the 5/30 £20 and Exol for the other 10or15/40 semi synthetic for the other £15. They were both all the right specs. Asked him why the likes of Halfords wanted £20 a pop more for their own brands - said he would write a sign and charge me more if I asked him to:-)
You could always try National Tyre too they do "cheap" changes with Castrol, specific to your engine as a loss leader to "check" your car. Good value.
Last oil change I had at my local garage who has always been fair on MOTs and repairs charged me £100. £25 labour, £6 filter and then the rest was oil -by the litre aargh. Don't mind paying the labour or extra on the oil but both??"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

excellent spot -- thanks fatbelly0

Yes, good spot - I'll be buying some of that next time I'm near a Wilko's. The best deal I had before was £6.50 for 4 Litres Mineral 10w/40 from Tesco but they have put the price up a lot now.0
