Can I return item without the box?

Hello

I recently (about a week ago) bought a weights set from Argos. For the first two days I had no problems with them and was quite happy with the purchase so I threw the box away.

But now, after having used them about 5-6 times, I've realised that they are absolutely rubbish and not fit for purpose. The end caps that hold the discs in place keep coming loose off the thread, which isn't suppose to happen.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

Edit: Btw, I do have the receipt.

Yes, you have to return the product; for a faulty item there is no need to return the box.

Argos are the most generous in terms of returns in my experience. I have returned items with neither box nor receipt previously and received refund in the form of store credit.

I would imagine they will take it back with the receipt but no box, but they may want to give you the refund in store credit form.

I'm sure they will offer a replacement due to the weights being faulty, if you are happy with this then just do that. If not, probably easier to just to go in with them, explain and see what they say.

As I said, they have very generous returns policies and usually will accept anything! (Even accept 30 day returns on a sofa for ANY reason (dislike etc.) and will even collect for free)

    Thanks for your responses!

I think it's just a bad quality item, rather than a fault so I don't want a replacement. But store credit would be good as I can just get a set of metal weights. They cost considerably more, but I guess you get what you pay for :)

So you appear to be wanting to return the thing because you have changed your mind about the purchase.

In this case, they may well want the thing returned in it's original condition, i.e. with box.

But of course, no harm in asking.

By the sounds of the OPs post i.e. the caps keep coming loose. That sounds like an inherent fault to me.

If you're returning the item due to them not being of satisfactory quality, then no, there is no need to return the original packaging, or to return them in a resalable condition, etc. It doesn't matter what the store policy is, as this is governed by statute law (although it would obviously be easier).

You should be entitled to a repair/replacement/refund, at your choice.

Call Argos and ask them. They will tell you, so you won't have to keep guessing.

If Argos agree that they are faulty, they will accept them back without the box, as long as you have the receipt. If they dispute the fault, then you can still return under the 16 day guarantee, but then they would need to be in the original box.

I am quite familiar with weight kits, and FYI what you've described is not a fault. It's normal for the collars to gradually loosen, you just tighten them back up when you complete your set of reps. You won't find any set on the market with a bar and interchangable weights that doesn't do this. If you want something a bit more solid, you'd need to fork out some extra £££ on fixed dumbells/barbells of the sizes you need.
