Do we want HD???

Options
Must admit, I was wondering about HD.

Isn't HD just more hype to get us to part with more money?

It seems almost a forgone conclusion that this is the latest musthave, but you will need to spend out a couple of 100£ on the hardware to provide HD (Or a higher sub to Sky or Cable) which I'm not prepared to do.

Cant see ordinary transmissions ending so why do I need HD?

Dont have an Xbox Etc.

Unless there is a good chance that HD will be received via free digibox (doubtful I guess) then what does it matter to me?

It will surely cost more, long term, to give us something that most of us would be happy to do without?

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

It's not a pseudo technology, if you don't want it fine, but as average TV screens get bigger the SD resolution becomes more deficient and a larger tv makes normal tv transmission look worse because it highlights the low res. Some people will want to take full advantage of large screens and of course that's not limited to tv transmission but also video in the form of blu-ray or HD-DVD. It's a perfectly natural complimentary technology to have developed to go with large LCD/Plasma screens.

But how long will it be before we can receive HD terrestrial TV transmissions? i.e. not have to pay for high definition.

Possibly not for a long time if ever as there are currently no plans to free up bandwidth on freeview to allow HD to be possible. But never say never.

Agreed, so to the OP if you are happy watching a CRT, get one now while you still can as they are becoming increasingly rare!

No No. I intend to get Plasma/Lcd but still wondering about the saving of non HD

Fine if you intend to subscribe to HD technology, Blueray Etc. but I wonder how many people realise the extra cost of the equipment/higher subs to receive it and once an HD tv is purchased then you are effectively forced to fork out, aren't you? - or you will have wasted your money.

    Bit of emotional blackmail really.

:D Go on you know you want to really. I don't think you need to feel forced about it, just future proofing really. Although might not be a while, I'm sure HD-DVD or Blu Ray will completely replace DVD. Having said that, now it is almost becoming standard to have HD ready tvs I'm sure there are plenty of bargains for models without HD that are seen to be "obselete".

It's like the difference between Gold Blend and Supermarket Own Brand coffee... HD is the Gold Blend of Coffee, and if you want to carry on drinking it you have to pay more. But we love ours, and once you've tried it you'll never want to go back - it's fab!
