not getting accepted for new credit card

I have a barclaycard at the moment with £1200 credit limit.

at this point i have a CC debt of £200. i want to move that to a new credit card with 0% balance transfer fee

I have tried twice in the last 12 months to apply for one but i keep getting declined.

any ideas why ? i just want to take advantage of the balance transfer. i pay all my bills and debts on time :(

Could be any number of reasons - affordability, stability etc. Do you have other debts, have you recently moved home, electoral register etc. Get a free trial with one of the credit reference agencies and get your report and look for any obvious errrors that may be causing problems...

Thanks. I'll check out my credit report. those free trials always puzzle me because in order to view your credit report you have to pay for it.

any particular website you would recommend?

All of the 3 credit agencies do free trials where you enter card details but as long as you cancel within the first month you are not charged.

However as an alternative if you have already used the trials or don't think you'd remember to cancel just get your £2 statutory reports, which you can order online. I'd suggest getting experian and equifax reports first, and only get the callcredit one if you didn't establish what the problem is from the other 2.

Ask the lender which credit reference agency they used, so that you can go straight to the right one. It is possible that the lender may also indicate in what aspect you have fallen short on their scoring system.
