How do I find out the landline number for my new house?

I moved into my new house 2 weeks ago, but I don't know where to find out the landline number that was used at the house previously (new suppliers won't proceed without the landline number). I don't think the previous owners took the number with them.

The estate agent refused to give me it, due to data protection.

Any suggustions would be gratefully received!

Many thanks

Oh! Not thought of that - want to go with Tesco for the broadband and landline package but they need to test the line prior to allowing me to proceed (they only cover certain areas).

If I get BT to reconnect me then I will have to stay with them for a minimum of 12 months? Is that correct?

Can anyone recommend a good value landline/broadband deal where I don't have to give a landline number?

    Many thanks

You don't have to give a landline no. to anyone to get reconnected-your line is disconnected and has no number now.
As far as OR are concerned, a reconnection or a new line provision are the same thing.
