New house, no phone line.

Hi,
We will shorlty be moving into our new house, but as of yet we don't have a landline, we need broadband too. Not TV though.

Do I need to contact BT in the first instance to get a new number or can I just go straight to a different provider?

Anyone recomend a good phone line and broadband package, not heavy use on either really.

Hi,

I'm no expert, but pretty sure you need either a BT line or Cable connection (such as Virgin) before you can use any other supplier. I can't recommend any particular suppliers, however, we are with O2 because as mobile customers of theirs we get discounted calls and broadband

The previous poster is incorrect, you can go straight to another supplier who will fit a phone line. I checked 3 months ago, o2 charged around £90, Talk-Talk £36 (special offer), and Sky £10 to fit a new line, but these prices may be incorrect now.
