I let my home insurance policy lapse - have I lost NCD?

I accidentally let my home insurance policy lapse by a month (I pay annually and so had no continuous payment set up).

I am now searching for the best price on a new policy and don't know how to answer the question about whether I have had previous insurance and claims. I previously held insurance continuously for 6 years without making claims. Have I lost this now as the this policy won't run continuously from the last?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Your NCD should be valid for 2 years with most companies, as long as you haven't had any incidents or claims during the gap, but it's definitely worth checking with the individual company.
Your renewal notice should provide proof of your NCD to your next insurer.
P.S. I did this once and it was fine. :)

You seem to be equating car insurance NCD with the "marketing" NCD offered by some home insurers.

The 2 year rule you refer to is usually of no concern to home insurers.

The period without cover the OP has had won't affect his premium with most companies, who ask for claim history rather than "NCB" (which isn't universally awarded at all).

Lol yes, I know more about car insurance than home, sorry! But at least I got the end answer correct, it won't matter.

Thank you. At the moment I am using a search engine which asks about continuous insurance, and it is that answer I am struggling with.

If it asks about have you had "continuous insurance" you will have to answer truthfully "no".

Why not, once you have got the quotes, ring through to the company you want to be insured with to clarify their position? You should be able to then proceed buying the cover either online or on the phone with them. :)
