Odd answerphone message

A couple of nights ago I got a phonecall and luckily for us a screen on the phone that tells us the number ( I remember its began 0163 , I didn't recognise it so I didn't answer ( I vet calls these days ).
They hung up when I didn't pick up and they didn't leave a message either.
So last night I got in and there was a message on my answerphone so I pressed play, the message was 'sounds' like a phone ringing then an answerphone picked up, and seeing as there was no voice speaking the other machine couldn't keep it.
Now I'm confused as to how someone can ring me and my answerphone picks up, then in the same message sound like my fone rings out and gets someone elses answerphone?
Is this some sort of scam where they make my phone ring a premium costing line?
Or am I being too paranoid???

One of my fave sites for checking odd numbers.
I always get 016 numbers ringing and their loan companys, ppi companys and just plain silent callers too.
Put the number in there and see what it says!Mum of 2 Under 5s

No, this is not possible. Whoever called you is using automated dialing equipment, when your answering machine answered you are then hearing their internal ringing to the agent. Ignore it.0
