Sick pay

Hi,
I am a single 44yr working woman living on my own in rented accomadation, i just about manage to live with very little money left at the end of the month. I am due to go into hospital for an operation which will leave me being off work for up to six weeks. I am worried sick as i would only be entitled to ssp. which wouldn't cover my rent. I have worked all my life and have never claimed a penny. I just think you're penalised for going to work, i feel like cancelling the operation and letting my health suffer, therefore the goverment will then keep me in the life i am accustomed to as i am no better off working.
Does anyone have any knowledge regards the sick pay benefits system.
Regards Bethany

You need to apply for housing and council tax benefit. If you are on a low income you may qualify for working tax credit.0

Hi Joanne
Thanks for you're reply. I have applied but i'm over the pay threshold. It's ludicrous.
I don't mind paying my tax and national insurance, but would like to know why there is
still child poverty in the country, the goverment harp on re all the benefits single parents
receive then why are our children still suffering without the basics.. Come and live in our
world Mr Cameron.0 -

Have you applied using your current income or the income you'll receive when you are only getting SSP? If your income drops due only
receiving SSP you can apply for HB and CTB whilst you are receiving SSP

:beer:Hi MrsManda
No i haven't applied with ssp as my monthly income.
Thank-you for noticing my mistake. I never would have
thought to put my ssp as earnings.
Once again thanks
Kind regards Bethany00
