Amtrak Miami - New York experiences

I hate flying, and Im considering taking the train for part of my journey from Miami to New York. Has anyone ever done this? How did you find it?
I cant really afford the option for a room, so would be doing it in a coach seat. Its cheaper than flying for the dates I want to go, especially when you consider I wont have to pay for checking my luggage as I would on the plane.
It does take over 24 hours, which means sleeping in a train seat, but from what I've read it seems quite a social way to meet people and see a bit of the country (from a train window of course!).

It depends on the facilities of your train but I think the options are either a reclining seat, a roomette that coverts to beds and has it own toilet or a family room with your own toilet and shower. The Amtrak website also has lots of info re the types of seats.
