Googlemail problems

I use googlemail as my email address and have been having problems with it for about the last couple of weeks.
When I type an email out - I find that I am typing "blind" (as the characters arent showing up on the page until I've typed several words on from the key I just hit).
Also - when I use the arrow key at the side to scroll up and down emails (sent or received) its SO slow and I'm having to push/push/push the arrow and it only moves a few lines, then push/push/push it again - instead of my normal "flip up and down through an email instantly".
I've sent a couple of "report a bug" reports to Googlemail - but they say they normally dont answer personal queries - so I've no idea if they are doing anything to remedy this or no.
1. I wonder if its anything to do with the fact that they recently decided they want us Googlemail users to change our addresses from xxxxxxxxxxxgooglemail.com to xxxxxxxxgmail.com? (as I have kept my current googlemail.com address as usual)??
2. Is there a way to swop my googlemail.com address to gmail.com without my having to go to the trouble of notifying everyone of an "address change"? and - if so - would that solve the problem?
My thoughts are that maybe Googlemail are deliberately "slowing us googlemail users down" in order to try and get us to swop to "gmail" address? Is this the case and - if so - can I get round that to continue as normal?

Googlemail is still working just fine for me. It is heavily dependant on javascript so probably something is slowing down your PC. Is everything else OK? Try the basic html interface (link at bottom of the page).
Probably advisable to run an AV scan - download the latest Malwarebytes and see it that picks anything up.0 -

No it will have nothing to do with that.2. Is there a way to swop my googlemail.com address to gmail.com without my having to go to the trouble of notifying everyone of an "address change"? and - if so - would that solve the problem?
It actually changes nothing - any of your contacts can continue to send you an email to googlemail and it will reach you. Even after you change over the googlemail address still exist, it is just none of your mail will be sent from that address. My thoughts are that maybe Googlemail are deliberately "slowing us googlemail users down" in order to try and get us to swop to "gmail" address? Makes absolutely no sense - it's more likely you have a browser or a PC problem than anything is wrong with gmail.0 -
Google really don't give a monkey's if you use googlemail or gmail.
All they are doing is trying to bring UK users into the same domain as the rest of the word, as the name 'GMail' was originally the subject of a trademark dispute in the UK, and now they have resolved that and own the trademark.
All emails sent to fredbloggs@googlemail.com will still reach fredbloggs@gmail.com, so there's absolutely no reason not to change. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Have to agree with the comments above. I use Gmail to handle five personal/work emails and although it can be a bit strange at times - it will spam out things I wnat to see somethimes - it's performance is otherwise fine. The text box issue, might be a browser issue. I don't know which one you use, but some browsers, not least versions of Internet Explorer can do strange things. It might be worth downloading Firefox - it seems to be very stable.

Thanks all for the helpful comments/suggestions.
Everything else on my computer is the same as normal.
I will work my way through investigating the "what it could be" suggestions then.0 -
Now working my way through suggestions - thanks.
Have started with the thought about Javascript.
So - I've got rid of two old versions of Javascript that I had on my pc and installed the latest version.
Will check later to see if back to normal - and work my way through some more suggestions if not.0 -
That won't be javascript it will be java and won't be involved. Javascript is handled by your browser and isn't a separate install. You can eliminate some of the javascript by clicking the "basic HTML" link at the bootom of the gmail page. It may well run faster but it's only a workaround and not a fix.So - I've got rid of two old versions of Javascript that I had on my pc and installed the latest version.0
