Hi
I live in Swindon. Not sure where exactly the Bovis homes are but Thamesdown Drive area and more wider afield North Swindon is fine, there is a massive shopping centre off thamesdown Drive with a hige Asda Walmart, Next, Homebase, Marks and Spencers, library, Pizza Hut, MacDonalds etc etc all in one complex. Plenty of Drs, dentists, hairdressers too. There are lots of little "village centres" in the different parts of North Swindon too each with its own small shop, and other facilities.
Thamesdown Drive can get quite busy, but then so does the rest of Swindon, traffic into town is particluary bad in rush hour.
The town centre is about 10 mins drive, and Junction 16 for the M4 about the same distance in the other direction, easy access from Thamesdown Drive to the A419 which leads to Cirencester etc.
The only problem in North Swindon seems to be lack of school places for primary age children, many parents, even though they literally have a school on their doorstep, are having to put their children in schools a few miles away as their are not enough places.
hope this helps, let me know if you want any more info, good luck0 -
Hi Thankyou for that most grateful. Looking forward to living and working in Swindon. We will be working at the new B&Q Distribution centre so this location is ideal for us as well as plenty of shops. Schools dont matter to us as we dont have kids so that wont be a problem.
Many Many Thanks

You're welcome, any more questions feel free to ask!
The B and Q building is certainly much talked about, very clever design
Good luck0 -
I live in Cirencester just down the road and although I have heard nothing about that address your talking off its never come up in the talks about the worse areas such as the 'P' areas LOL I would think if no-one is talking about it being horrendous it can't all be that bad
The rush hour traffic can be awful around the Orbital etc but I guess you'd get that anywhere.
Enjoy your new home and good luck with the moveWife to a great husband and mum to 4 fantastic kids 9,8,4,3 they drive me mad but I would do anything and give everything for my family :grinheart

Just googled where it is and if I am right it is the development with the office in a crescent of houses? Either way that bit of the development is nice. Some of the roads around there are quite narrow, but you will know that having driven there. It is close to a shopping area with tesco's dentist hairdressers and a few other bits and still close to big asda.
Good luck0 -
Thankyou everyone just waiting for part exchange to go through looking to move in around end of June
Thanks again

Hi and oggi welcome to Swindon. I live elsewhere on the Redhouse development about 5 minutes walk from Windsor Gate - in fact we nearly bought a house there but decided to buy from a different builder just down the road instead (wish we had stuck with Bovis to be honest!!).
Myself and my wife often walk the dog around the edge of the Windsor Gate development and it's not a bad area - in fact it amazes me how quiet the whole Redhouse area seems to be in the streets despite the high concentration of housing. As michelefauk says, most facilities are conveniently located and you can buy most things at the Orbital Retail park only a few moments drive away.
I hope your move works out well.
Edited to Add: I see you have asked about broadband speed in the area on another thread.
There are two telephone exchanges serving the Redhouse area and so far as I can tell it is 'pot luck' as to which exchange you are on but hopefully being in a new-build will help - my parents also live in Redhouse and are on the older Blunsdon exchange and get around 2-3 Meg download. However, despite me living closer to the Blunsdon exchange than they do, I am actually (thankfully!) on the newer Haydon Wick exchange (it is actually in Haydon End). From this exchange I got just under 7 Meg on BT and then I changed to BE LLU a few months ago and now get over 14 Meg.
The only potentially positive thing about being on the Blunsdon exchange is that it is enabled for BT Infinity whereas Haydon Wick isn't - however I believe that not everyone on the Blunsdon exchange can get the Infinity fibre service. Certainly my parents can't so, if you end up being stuck with Blunsdon, just keep your fingers crossed about Infinity.....0 -
At this rate oggy you will be able to have a moving in party & invite all your Mse Swindon palls :-)0

Try and avoid Manchester Road, Park South, Toothill, Penhill unless looking for drugs, prostitutes, a fight.0
