VW touran MPG

I have a touran 1.9tdi and getting only 35-36 mpg around town i would of thought around 42-43 would be possible,the car has recently had a service and timing belts which made no differance,do i have a problem somewhere.

Where did you get that idea from? Manufacturers own figures are only 47MPG combined. I would say for most people who have not been on an economical driving course or IAM/RoSPA that mid to high 30's would be what they'd get in town and low 40's is what they'd get combined. If that town driving involves congestion, it'll be at the lower end.

You don't need to go on any course to be able to drive economically, if you do it's a driver improvement course that's more needed;).
That said the manf figures are notoriously hard to achieve, you need to try harder. If the performance is still fine I wouldn't suspect the car.
