My friend, a single parent mum is working and gets tax credits and entilement to school dinners etc, son aged 12 is wanting to go on a 5 day school trip costing £250 it will be a struggle for her but every child in his class is going so she really doesn't want him to miss out. Is there any help she can get, the school seem…

TC and WTC are at a higher rate than IS. my daughter and i are both single parents with one child. she gets TC and IS as she's not working (dgs very little) and i get WTC and TC as i am working. I don't get Housing Benefit but am still better off than her when I discount my rent and work costs and her milk tokens. Will sit down with her one day and work out exactly what the difference is. I have done "sitting at home on IS" and it's no picnic
