Problems with RAM

Hi,

I noticed the other night that my system info showed 2.00GB RAM (instead of 4.00GB), so I restarted my laptop (Acer Aspire 5536G) and the BIOS stated 2048MB despite there being 2 lots of 2GB RAM inside though.

I downloaded a program called CPU-Z and it states 2048MB too. It said there was 2048MB RAM in Slot #1 so I switched the RAM around and tried again, BIOS said 2048MB and so did CPU-Z. I was expecting CPU-Z to state Slot #2 but it stated Slot #1.

Does this mean the slots are faulty or is it still likely to be faulty RAM?

Thanks in advance.

Unlikely to be faulty RAM in that case.

Are you certain that the module in slot 2 is fully pushed into place? I owned a laptop in the past which required a lot more force to fully seat the module in one slot than the other.
