Got the new computer and its gorgeous, but it only has 2 bars strength on the wireless signal - the old one had 4/5. Same router in the same place. Anything I can do to bump it up a wee bit ?

go to the manufacturer of the wifi card's site and make sure you download the latest drivers for it, always the first port of call :)

right-click on Computer, select properties, pick hardware or device manager, and your wifi card (wireless network adapter) will be listed under.........network adapters ;)

in the device's properties (right-click on it), there is an option to update the driver

ALSO download and install inSSIDer http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/. When you run it, it'll give a list of local wireless networks along with indications of how crowded your area is and the channel numbers. The simple option is jut to write down the channel number of your network,
Then if you right click on the adapter itself in the Device Manager list, select properties and the advanced tab. Scroll down to an option for (or similar to) Wireless Channel Number and set it to the same as your network broadcasts as you found out above.

More complicated (and I can give you directions if you really need it) is to select a less crowded channel number (using inSSIDer) for both your router and wifi card...
