As a temporary measure, why don't you use the keytop off another little-used button instead. For example the button to the left of the "1"

Have you tried ebay - there's quite often people selling single keys including the hinge bit. TBH the same happened on my Acer laptop and I got a full new keyboard for around £10 so now I have many spare keys...0

Its my company laptop and they want to replace the whole thing just for this key.... trouble is i get a clear hard drive so its a real pain loading up all the programmes etc for work.... easier just to buy a button!
Still looking for one....I save so I can spend.0 -
Hi. PM me. I have several Thinkpad keyboards on stock that I sell individual keys for on Ebay. All I will need is a picture of where the missing key is along with an adjacent couple of keys. I've not got a T400 specifically in stock but IBM/Lenovo have used the same hinge design for 17 years across all their corporate laptop range and the only difference is the font used on the key and the shape of the bevel at the edge.
HOWEVER, depending on the age of the laptop, it may have Next Day On Site parts and labour warranty. Last time I used this on a Thinkpad I bought, I phoned up Lenovo at 3pm and at 9am the following morning, a man turned up with a new keyboard. I was not asked for proof of ownership as the warranty follows the laptop. You can check the warranty status on Lenovos website as well as raise a ticket. You need the serial number off the bottom which is something like 99-123ABC but the website tells you how to find it.0 -
Looks like you can get a replacement keyboard for about £40:

Maybe you can find a cheaper one, though: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Lenovo+thinkpad+T400+keyboard+"spare+parts"0 -
But i can get the key replaced for a few quid... why i would need a whole key board for £40?? Last resort maybe..... but still looking.
Ta Hammy, will get some pics. For something to go on...
The hinge / mount is the I3 on this page.

Key has 3 bevelled edges bottom and sides.
