local govt - redundancy to redeployment

hi, i posted before in the public sector thread when i was given my redundancy notice back in march. i've now been redeployed within the same council, to a job which i think will suit me, which is brilliant and i know i'm very lucky to get it, but it's only 2.5 days a week, which isn't brilliant.
the new role is the same grade as my old one, which is good but less hours obviously mean less wages. i dont suppose there is anything i can do about this... i want to stay employed and worry that if i turn it down i wont find anything else in my sector as many others are being made redundant all over the country with my same skills (end of a Labour programe of work).
i'm asking if i can work 3days one week then 2 days the next so my petrol costs are minimised, (i live 15 miles away but its 45m to 1hr in rush hour). i think this is reasonable.
so i'm another to add to the growing stats of those 'not jobless, but not working as much as they need to'.

You'll have the remaining 2 1/2 work days to search for something with more suitable hours! You never know, there may even be something F/T that pops up within your LA when the dust settles.
It's very difficult to walk away from a slightly unsuitable employment opportunity in favour of the Dole queue. I don't regret doing it (there were only F/T opps for me and I'd been P/T), got contribution based JSA which took the sting out of no salary whatsoever, found another job before it ceased AND got my redundancy pay. Very lucky.
Have you tried asking if they can rejig the workload and make it 3 days per wk? You never know unless you ask.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0
