Thanks, I have contacted my neighbourhood police and they re saying they think it is slander/libel. My friend has not lived in the house for the past 3 years but the neighbour just keeps trying all she can to have a go at any opportunity, and it is now getting stupid, especially when it is involving other people and affecting my friends business. I would hope the neighbourhood police would try to step in as their duties imply help with anti social behaviour, which this clearly is.

Do not expect any help from the police! This is a civil matter and it's down to the friend to resolve it herself if she can. I would be tempted to have a solicitor write the neighbour a letter warning them that any rumours or disinformation spread by them will be considered defamation and will result in action through the courts.

Not that actually going to court would an option. You need to be a multimillionaire to bring that sort of action and win, in any case.
