Acceptable feedback % ?

I've seen a few threads now where people have stated they would not buy off someone because of there 'low rating'. When checked a lot of these are 96/98% but with 1000's of transactions.
I have a rating of 98.3 % but that's from over 6000 sales and 6 years of Ebay.
It could be higher but I am honest with the feedback I leave so expect (and accept) negatives in return. (Even the '0' rated non payers get the negative they deserve
).
Do some people really just go by the %

Im on about 98.3% with around 600.
If your buying and sellings its really the luck of the draw haivng 100% compared to 98 for example.
My mum trades antiques and you could conclude shes dealing with an older more mature dempgraph. Whereas I sell guitars and some collecatbles associated with younger members.
She hasnt had a single non paying bidder in about 350 sales. Ive lost count of many Ive had. Infact I often get kids bidding then insulting me when I ask for payment.0 -
I would not automatically buy from someone with less than 99% unless they were newish (50 or so feedback) in which case 1 neg can pull their feedback right down. For larger seller and powersellers I tend to prefer those at 99% and above.

It costs me a lot of money to keep my rating high. I have bent over backwards to keep buyers happy but I think it is probably worth it in terms of final prices received on items and the ability to shift quantities faster than some other sellers.
I have a competitor who has 1% less than me and he hates it when I price match him because he thinks I get all the sales (I hope I do!!).
As a buyer if you have thousands of sales I would expect you have feedback in excess of 98% and in some cases in excess of 99%. If you are closer to 98% I will take a bit longer reading some of the buyers comments and then making up my own mind. I reckon I am pretty good at spotting spurious feedback.
Your feedback is borderline and I would also read your your comments to buyers, any rude words or name calling etc I will not tolerate. However if you leave well reasoned feedback then again I will probably deal with you.
That is just my tuppence worth though and I am sure other buyers will hae other ways of assesing feedback.0 -
As long as someone's got >1000 sold, I'd be happy with a rating of 97%+ I think.
There are so many prats on ebay that it's natural for someone's feedback not to be 100%.0 -

For me it is the other way round, the more sales the higher the feedback needs to be. Any new seller can run into a nasty buyer and that 1 neg can ruin the percentage feedback. However if a big seller has lots of negs it either means that they have a high percentage of problems, or, just as worryingly they attract trouble. Very few people leave negs, so for every neg left there are probably many other disgruntled buyers. The other thing I really don't like is withdrawn feedback...if a seller does it too oftne it makes them look a little odd.
To be a power seller a seller needs to maintain feedback of 98% or above, so any big seller with less than that isn't even considered suitable by ebay to be on their powerseller programme.
I can accept that all sellers will come across a prat, but start getting 1 in a hundred, or even worse 2 in a hundred people prepared to risk their own feedback by leaving a neg then something is going seriously wrong.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have a gander at how many feedback the have overall.. then read what the bad was for.. but that seems an acceptable % to me..x0

I have 99.5% on over 2000 feedback, 11 negatives but none in the last 12 months - the majority of the negatives are revenge feedbacks from non paying bidders who i have left negatives for, these are becoming less frequent though since they are removed if the non paying bidder doesnt reply to the unpaid item notification.0

A feedback score of 99% or less will normally have me checking the seller's profile page to see why they've been negged, how recently and whether they've replied to the negative f/back, if so whether they sound reasonable, and how many mutually withdrawn f/back they have. A score like 98.3% wouldn't necessarily deter me from bidding, but I'd want a closer look. If I were considering a very expensive purchase I'd look closely even the score were 100%.
I don't know why eBay stopped doing the feedback sorting thing they trialled for a while, where you could choose to look at a seller's negative feedback by itself without having to wade through several pages to find it. As both a buyer and a seller, I welcomed it. I think there's a similar tool still available somewhere - can someone direct me to it?
I've started using a secondary ID for most purchases, so I don't have to worry too much about any spiteful retaliatory negs spoiling my score on my main ID.
I once looked at a seller's feedback and found they'd left a retaliatory neg for a newbie who'd negged them for taking 4 working days to despatch. The original neg was admittedly unreasonable, but this guy took pride in taking the newbie's feedback score to -1, and gloated about how difficult that would make things for the newbie. He seemed quite vindictive, and would have put me off buying from him if the item hadn't been hard to find.0 -

I'm on 99.5% off almost 1500 feedback.
1 neg in the last 12months, none in the last 6 months, and 8 overall.
Most from sellers tbh, where I've bought items and had problems with seller and item!0
