Council help with home upkeep for over 60s

Options
I heard that over 60s are eligible for help with home repairs. Is this true? Can somebody point me to some websites/info?

Thanks.

Not sure about the minimum age Hubris.

Depends, I assumed OP was homeowner & not council tenant, in which case the home owner is responsible for repairs / maintenance, much same as a car really, why should taxpayers pay to maintain a private asset?

Assuming the OP is an owner occupier.

Many councils offer a 'Handyman' service to help with minor repairs and adaptations.

Try the website of the council and search for Handyman.

My local council offers a "care and repair" service for homeowners over 60. You pay for any materials needed and until recently there was no fee.

The service doesn't cover decorating but will send someone to replace a toilet seat, unblock a drain, fit a doorbell etc.

The fee isn't as much as you pay for a private contractor. Contact your local council and hopefully there will be a similar local service for you.

My Council's Care and Repair is means tested, and anyway said all they could do was tell me what needed to be done... -- Social Services had referred me to them.

But it's certainly worth trying, clearly they do help a lot of people.

Ceck out the British Legion Poppycalls service.
They do small jobs for ex forces personnel or widows/widowers of personnel who are in receipt of a means tested benefit.

There used to be a 'Staying Put' service with Anchor but I think it may be under review.
