Swalec doorknocker
"Just a courtesy call sir to make sure you are getting the cheapest energy"
" I am thankyou"
"But your deal with EON is coming to an end shortly........."
"Goodbye" ...shuts door.
BUT HOW THE HELL DID HE KNOW I WAS WITH EON ?????
Is there an industry database that they all can trawl - can't see how that would be legal.
EDIT: What makes it even crazier is that as far as I can see SWALEC haven't got any special tariffs anymore just a discounted online version of the standard tariff

They can check industry databases relating to meter supply numbers which are associated to the address (i.e holds no personasl details) that tell any power co who current supplier is. You're right the are only offering their standard right now, with as you mentioned, a slightly higher discount if do paperless billing.0

Had an nPower salesman at my door one time, who said they could beat British Gas prices. Just told him I wasn't with BG, which I wasn't. He muttered something about that being what his records showed and asked who I was with. Told him that was my business, not his, and terminated the conversation.
On another ocassion, I reminded the salesman he was in a no cold calling zone - I even had a sign saying so on my door. His reply was "Well, I've just signed up somebody across the road." I didn't have an answer to that, so sent him on his way.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Had a further thought when I read your reply - he could have found out I was with EON but ......how did he know I was on a limited time contract? Is that in this database as well ?? :eek:They can check industry databases relating to meter supply numbers which are associated to the address (i.e holds no personasl details) that tell any power co who current supplier is. If he knocks on enough doors of known E.On customers, he's bound to get one who's on the agreement about to end. They just want their foot in the door anyway.
