I have just swapped to them for gas, so you had me worried. I emailed them and they replied:-
"If you we not happy with us I'd hope you'd give us chance to sort it out. However, if you still wanted to cease your supply of EQUIGAS, then you only have to give 28 days notice."Torgwen.....................

Does anyone else use Equigas/Equipower?
I am in the midst of switching my gas and electricity supply, but I am a bit concerned that all the correspondence seems to emanate from Southern Electric. The implication is that I am THEIR customer, and that is not what I agreed to, and you do hear tales of sharp practice.
Is this usual?0 -
On the off chance that anyone is remotely interested, I have now sourced a response to my own query, as follows
'EBICo Limited, who operate EQUIGAS and EQUIPOWER, is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. We do not hold a gas supply licence and so we use either Southern Electric, SWALEC or Scottish Hydro (depending on our customer's location) to supply on our behalf. Thus, whilst the EQUIGAS and EQUIPOWER tariffs are ours, it is Southern Electric that will be your supplier for the purposes of the Gas and Electricity Acts.'0 -
Thanks StuSter for putting the info you found on this board as it might be of interest to people thinking of switching (I have just applied to switch to them too).Torgwen..........

I switched to Equipower for both gas and electricity around Dec 2004, coming from Powergen, and various other suppliers before that. At this relatively early stage, all the indications are that I will make the huge cost savings which I anticipated. It could be one of the best things I ever did. There is little to go wrong, as far as I can tell. Equipower are still holding their 'old' prices too.
The admin arrangement was a bit of a surprise, but so what? After I signed up online, I've not heard a thing from Equipower. All the communications are from Southern Electric, just like I'd joined them. The only mention of Equipower is the small print tariff name alongside Equipower's quoted cost per KwH, and most significantly, the complete absence of any standing charge or tiered rates. They are almost paying me to use gas and electricity. I'm sure no other utility could match this deal, given my relatively low usage. Well done Equipower.
Highly recommended. People should be signing up in droves.

I have also switched from Powergen for both, having previously been with Amerada who unfortunately got swallowed up by Powergen, so I was only their customer by default.
I was never entirely happy with them - the virtual doubling of my costs may have had something to do with that! So having found this site and consulted the comparison media I have taken the plunge.
The jury is still out at the moment as my date of transfer was only 4th March. However Laura at Ebico answered my transfer queries very efficiently and promptly. Because of the relationship with Southern etc. I also double checked that the Equi- tariffs were not subject to their recently announced price increases, and I was assured that it was not the case.
However they will inevitably be reviewed at some point. Twas ever thus!0 -
Have switched and received my first bill - it was quite close too. Yes SSE (Scottish and Southern) administer the deal which means this company is backed by a large company. They are excellent for small users and people who pay by check.0

For some reason my last post has the following text at the end - This is NOT ME and I do not know how it got there
"Please note I am an authorised IFA with 14 years experience. Authorised and regulated by the FSA. https://www.one-group.co.uk. Any posts are purely opinion - a full factfind and meeting is required before any specific advice can be provided. 07968 069652 " - PLease ignore this.0 -
