what financial help is there when DLA expires?

Posted a while ago my OH's DLa renewal papers not coming thru in time. the current award runs out at the end of June, but the DWP only aknowledged reciept of our forms last week.

What happens when the award runs out and a new decision hasn't been made? Does my OH claim Income Support for a short time until the decision has been made about the DLA?

No, they're completely separate benefits for different purposes. Can't really suggest what might be appropriate without you telling us what your situation is. Retired/ working age/ kids (what ages)/ unfit for work etc.

Yes, as explained, I know this. But this wasn't what I asked...

Bottom line is I don't think there is anything to fill the gap when your OH DLA ends, but there should be plenty of time for them to complete it.

I got my renewal paperwork in Dec for April renewal date - DWP only took 6 weeks to complete, would have been less but
my Oncologist was on holiday for a fortnight.

Let your OH's doctor/specialist know paperwork maybe coming to them so they can attend to it quickly. Ask them to fax
paperwork back to DWP then post originals.

Might be worth you while to call Benefits helpline to explain situation, does your OH get ESA or Incapasity benefit?
Again worth doing benefit check to make sure your getting what your entitled to.

All excellent advice from shopaholic and unfortunately they are correct in that there is no alternative to DLA whilst waiting for a decision. Please be aware too that if there is any Carer's Allowance being paid that will end as well but will be backdated when the new award is made.

On a happier note though my hubby has just gone through his DLA renewal and the whole thing took less than 5 weeks so they can get it sorted very quickly.

    Good luck with it.
