Barclaycard Credit Limit Increase

I have just tried to increase the credit limit of my Barclaycard, but was declined. When I rang them, I was told that this was because I went over my balance limit 2 months ago, which is fair enough. Does anyone know when I should be eligible for a credit limit increase if I keep my account in order? They were particularly vague on the phone, and said 6 months after I was last over my limit but I might be able to increase the credit limit after 4 months.

I would say it won't be increased for a very long time TBH and it will be them who increase it, they won't do it by your request for a couple of year.
In there eyes you going over your limit is to them someone not managing there money very well, stupid I know but fact.

It's annoying as I only went over my limit because I was close to it when my monthly interest fees went out of my account, and that was the only thing that sent me over. Hopefully I won't have to wait a couple of years for an increase.

Barclays can be a horrible company to be a customer with, hopefully you won't wait that long but I know how those sneaky bugg*rs work
  • I'd go for 6 months from the date of the time you went over your limit. That was their first comment, which makes me think it would be the most likely

Personally speaking I like BC. I have three cards with them and they are always offering good promotional rates. Now if your talking OPUS then that is a completely different story!

If you hover all the time close to your limit, you won't get an increase,
as this indicates financial difficulties and an increase might just exacerbate the situation.

I always found BC to be excellent when it came to increases.

I hovered at £900 + on a £1000 limit for a year and just had an increase to a £3k limit with a 6% balance transfer for life of transfer.

    So not strictly true.
