Dishwasher installation

I hope I'm asking this in the right place. We moved house in October and have been unable to plumb in the dishwasher (Washing machine taking priority) as there is only 1 set of water pipes coming in (hot and cold) and the one waste thing for washing machine (Sorry can you tell I'm no good with these things).
Basically, what I'm asking is how would we plumb a dishwasher in? Under the sink we have the waste out from the sink and into that there is a little 'sticky out bit' where the waste from the washing machine joins it. The water in is 2 copper pipes, and my common sense tells me to just go and find a splitter of some sort, but as I said, I know nothing about these things. My OH will do it for me if I can find the right things we need, we can't afford to get someone in to do it and after a really bad experience I don't tend to trust people like that.
I'm sorry if this is explained really badly, but I would really appreciate any help anyone can give.

If your OH is competent to do the simple bit of plumbing that you require then he should be knowledgeable enough to buy the few plumbing bits required as well. If you get your bits from one of the sheds, then you can buy anything that you think you might require and take back what you don't use. Keep all the packaging and do not destroy it when taking the item out.(Difficult to do sometimes) Remember that there is no, one correct way, to do small jobs like this. Many different combinations of bits will achieve the desired effect.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Its easy enough. You can get a new piece for the waste under the sink that has 2 "sticky out bits" so you can connect the washing machine and dishwasher.

Dishwashers only use a cold feed to its just a matter of modifying the cold feed for the washing machine so it has a second valve to connect to - should be easy enough.
I assume you have somewhere to plug the dishwasher in.0
