A Faulty Fire Alarm

The fire alarm in our house keeps going off for no reason what is the cause ?

    Could be the battery? Sometimes they beep when the battery is getting flat. Otherwise it might just be faulty.

    Best advise I can give though is get a new one that you are sure is reliable.

    If you can remove it try giving it tap a few times on hard surface. might knock some dust out but it's probably needs replacing. Are you sure it not the low battery warning.

    Smoke alarms should be replaced every five to ten years - there should be a sticker on it somewhere telling you when it expires. If in doubt, replace with a new one.

    It is a mains operated alarm so the battery is not the problem

    is it possible that the smoke detectors in the ceiling could be blocked with dust could this be the problem if so what is the best way to clean them without doing any damage to them

    How long is a piece of string?

    I'd start by looking at whatever head triggered the alarm.
    Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.

    Have you checked? There should still be a battery back up in case of a power failure (perhaps caused by a fire in the first place...).
