Hi all!
Hope I'm posting this in the right place?
Last year my Daughter was accepted for a mobile phone contract with 3, although she was only 17. I didn't find out about this until about 6 months into her contract and didn't think there was anything I could do about it.
However, she ran up rather a large bill and has now been disconnected and is being chased/threatened wih legal action etc.
I accept that she most probably lied about her age when applying for the contract, but surely companies are supposed to do checks? She is now 18 and applied for a catalogue the other week - which was declined. Do we have any legal rights as far as her contract with 3 is concerned?
Thanks for any help!!

the contract would be invalid if she was under 18 but it also depends on what information was provided to 3 at point of sale.0

Thanks.
I believe she was just asked for her date of birth, address and debit card details.0 -
Three were wrong by not doing proper checks, but your daughter was also in the wrong by fraudulently obtaining a contract - so be careful what course of action you choose.0

I am no expert, but...
If a 17-year-old gets a credit card and doesn't pay for it will it go on a future credit report?
Answer:...
Here are opinions and answers from FAQ Farmers:
- Yes, if the minor has been legally emancipated therefore allowing him or her to enter into financial contracts.
- No, if the credit was obtained by fraudulent means, if that were the case, the minor would have a more serious problem to deal with than a bad credit score.

Hmmm, not sure what to do now to be honest

Lend her the money for the bill and let her pay you back over time...say 6 months?0 -
Calm down. Every cloud...
Soon she will not be able to borrow even 1p anywhere.0 -

Try getting her to follow you and be honest in future :beer:0 -

Then you disown her, throw her out onto the street....nothing to do with you then? Have you questioned the bill...with her/the phone Co.?0
