I have recently changed from Scottish power to First Utility. The reason behind, Scottish power was a payment of £225 per month for Electricity and Gas for an estimation. First Utility however take a monthly reading. This months payment being £93 for both Electricity and Gas.
Having decided on this evidence that Scottish Power were totally ripping me off I called them to be told, you have a credit on your account of £235. I asked why it hadn't been sent to me and they said it's credit for you on your account. I said If I no longer did business with them , I no longer had an account. They have agreed to send me a cheque for the sum in question. Are they legally allowed to sit on peoples money with no intention of paying it back to them. Have you done the same by changing supplier if so ring up your old supplier and ask if you are owed any credit.

This is why I refuse to pay by DD. I always pay by quarterly bill. By paying by DD you're giving the utility provider an interest free loan0
