Need advice about car accident

Me and my sister both share a car.

Have third party insurance which we renewed in febuary and paid for in full for the whole year.

Well, she crashed today on the motorway. luckily she is fine. She lost control so it is her fault. drove into a truck and he told her that he is going to claim.

Now I am a little confused as to how my insurance would work if I buy a new car. What if i don't buy a car? will I get a refund on the premium I have paid for for the full year?

Just a little confused as I have never had an accident or know anyone who has.

Thanx

Hi, if there is an accident during the policy there will be no refund of premiums. In answer to your other questions we need to know who is the main driver and who is the named driver?

From you thread the following assumptions are made:-

    The policy is in your name as policyholder;
Your sister is a named driver on your policy.

    Position will be as follows:-
There will be a claim on your policy by the third party and you will lose any no claims bonus, unless you have protected.
You will still be liable to pay the whole year's premium so there will be no refund.
If you are paying in instalments you will still have to keep paying.
If you purchase another vehicle your insurer may let you put it on the policy to replace the damaged one - however not all insurers do this and you may have to buy another policy.
Going forwards you will have to disclose that you have had a claim on your policy and your sister will have to disclose that she had an accident.

If the assumption re: policy holder and named driver is reversed the same will apply but your sister will be policyholder and you will be named driver.

Was there any chance the person was not going to claim?? what would it cost to fix his car and yours?? i once hit someone from behind and the cost of bumper was 160 pound, so i was going to pay it until she mentioned back pain and things, she ended up claiming 1200 or so, but it cost me a lot more over the next few years in increased insurance payments, if i had managed to get away with 160 pound i would have been very happy.

    Hey..

thats what the truck driver told my sister. I wasn't in the car so have no idea on the damage on the truck. Sister can't really remember much tbh. Still in shock...but the state of my car is pretty bad.

I do have their details tho and it is a transport company. Might give them a call and see what is going on.

    Hi just to add,
If your existing insurance do let you continue to insure, then you can continue without a increase until your renewal.
Most likly they will cancel your Policy.

You cannot be sure there will be no increase in premium when you change cars being covered mid term - there may well be an increase if the new car carries a higher rating.

And your insurer won't "cancel" the policy, whatever the outcome. If the policy you have is one that ends on a total loss payout, then it will just be "ended", and you will not have a "cancelled" policy on your record.
