Keeping hold of my no claims

I have recently become eligible for a company car so am in the process of getting mine tidied up and sold (sad times!). I would, however, quite like to keep hold of the 5 years no claims bonus I have built up. I have heard various different stories; NCB expires if not used after X years etc.
Is there any way of keeping hold of my NCB? I have also heard many different opinions of how to do this. Ie getting insured on a car for a week / month will keep it 'active' or being the second driver on another vehicle (I know I won't build up any more no claims but will it keep my current NCB 'active'?)?
Any ideas?
Thanks

See the links above but just for clarification as I have been in and out of company cars over the last 6 years.
Generally you keep them for 2 years, if you get close to that term buy an absolute shed and insure it for about 4 or 5 months then cancel and you'll receive a new proof. A few weeks sometimes isnt enough.0 -
A lot of companies will give you a discount if you have been driving a company car, or at least they used to. When I switched from driving a company car to running my own I was given a discount equivalent to a full no claims.0

Off the top of my head, Budget, Co Op and Direct Line still do according to their websites. Others may also when you call them up.Gloomendoom wrote: »A lot of companies will give you a discount if you have been driving a company car, or at least they used to. It's a set number of years, about 3 years I think. However, if you're with Direct Line, I think they keep it live for about 6 or 7 years if you re-insure with them.0
