Help with new pc spec!

Options
Hi,
my current pc is lagging, on it's way out and needs updating. So I have been looking into a new custom built pc to suit my needs! - however, I am no expert, all the cpu and ram and motherboard specs just confuse me, so I am hoping someone can advise if this pc is going to be good for what I need!
This is what I have been pondering- (sorry cannot post link) -

The Video Editing PC at PC Specialist
(pop that into google and it should come up!)

Specification Snapshot:
  • Intel® Core™ i5 Processor i5-2400
  • ASUS P8H67-M LX SI
  • 4GB SAMSUNG DDR3 1333MHz
  • 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 430
  • 1TB WD CAVIAR GREEN
...and the question is; will it meet my needs?
The pc will be for internet surfing, photo editing, design and the odd game (kids games not WoW!) I design alot, so can quite often have word, photoshop, mail client and firefox running at any one time. Some of my images are large, and some of my word docs are very image heavy, so I am guessing I would be better off going for more ram? I am often multi-tasking and jumping from one app to another!
Anyway, any advice is greatly received, as I have just confused myself looking at all the options available!
Thank You! :beer::beer:

Ditch that hard drive and go for something faster.

Closed - thank you, I have cleaned it through and through but will read your article later and have a go...
Killerwatt - which would be a faster hard drive? I would just be taking a wild guess with any one I picked!?!

how much are you looking at spending (maximum and prefered)?

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

If I can guess what Killerwatt is thinking. You need a disk with a speed of 7200rpm for video editting.

A quick Google on the disk you highlighted shows some speed issues. Look at this review.

    Hope that helps.

well it isnt just about RPM either as the Samsung F3 drives only run at 7200rpm however they are as quick and a lot of hte time quicker than a velociraptor drive which runs at 15000rpm.

Killerwatt might also be meaning looking into a SSD for the main hard drive and a second drive for storage, although this is more expensive

If you can afford it then go with an ssd hard drive as your C drive and the 1tb hard drive for the bulk storage of data. Noise reduction, speed increase, less power used and less heat to me all make the ssd a very worthwhile investment. PC Specialist have the OCZ vertex drives which give great bang for the buck.
