Premium Bonds

I have £700 'invested' in Premium Bonds which I saved into before reading about them on this website.

I need the money for more sensible purposes, like paying off the OD, but I don't want to remove it during December as they have all the draws this month.....well you never know, I may be lucky!!

When in the month do they do all the draws - my plan being once they are done I will cash the bonds in and make use of the loot. I think my savings will be placed somehwere more productive following Martin's article on Premium Bonds.

Cheers for advice!!

Its NOT the end of the month, but the beggining, if you go to the website nsandi.com there is a checker there, enter your reference number of your certificate (not the bond numbers). Site has already been updated for the december draw - that will tell you if you have won, even if its only £50

with £700 only dont hold ur breath, they are generally worth having if you have 30k to spare and then you will win regularly. tho as my dad found out over period of 5 yrs, he still would have made nearly twice as much if hed put it in a high savings account! I think the draws are at the beginning of each month so you may as well just cash them in, tho even this for money to come to you takes a few weeks.

You can get a redemption form from the post office and you can opt to have the money from when they get the form or after the next draw.

The draw is on the first day of the month.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Premium Bonds are worthwhile because there is that golden chance of the big win. But with average luck a high interest savings account is better. But you will never win big in a high interest savings account. It's a trade off.

  • They draw at the begining of the month. I only had £100 on for about 5 years so unfortunately I have never won a penny!
  • would love to see this change to a have you ever won thread, I have had a massive £24 of bonds for thirty years, never won a penny:rotfl:
I have met a lot of people in that time who have bonds and only ever spoken to one person who has won but that was only £50.

I have won £50 - at the time, I had almost £3000 in bonds (onlt half mine, and won in the first eligible month - ie second draw after buying them. Now only have a £5 bond- had it since 1978 (i was a week old) but never won with that.
