Bug season

I'm travelling 200 miles to work outside the area currently, staying in hotels then driving back.

This poses a small problem in that it's bug season again and no matter how much screenwash you use the residue remains.

Can anyone recommend any stuff that can be bought cheaply to get rid of this stuff, given that soapy warm water isn't really an option in a hotel car park?

Whole shelf full of stuff at halfords and other car shops. Liquids, foams, Sponges and scourers and also rubber tipped wipers...

Old fashioned tip, Half an orange or lemon, Removes bugs and clears oily traffic film off the screens.

Top tip dont eat the half you just cleaned the screen with, Especially if your a veggie.

I know there's loads of it available, I just want something that works and is cheap :)

Will try the citrus option, thanks.

Holts Mixra - It may have been rebranded but it's a yellow aerosol. Spray on and it foams up. Leave on for a minute and then use your windscreen wipers/washers to wipe off.

Cheapest would be a plastic sandwich box with a bug sponge, plain water and a dash of Fairy Liquid.

I too get annoyed at the amount of bugs I get splattered on the front of my car this time of the year. So I refrain from washing it.

Then we hit the winter and then the back of the car gets clarted up with salt and grime.

So I think I may wash just half of the car in the summer and the other half in the winter lol.

Wash the front of the car with an old kitchen towel instead of a sponge, problem solved.

  • Might not exactly suit your needs due to the lodging away, but I keep an old towel, soaked, in a sealed plastic bag. Lay it over windscreen or affected area for an hour or so then wipe away bugs!
I'm sure you could discretely clean and rinse the towel in the hotel?!?
