.....as long as your wife has got a current UK passport, they'll use that picture......

It's not enough to be a current passport.

To use your passport's photo, it has to be not more than 5 years since the passport was issued.

I was stung for the twenty quid ten year replacement photo job about 3 or 4 months back but if it had been 3 or 4 weeks ago it may have been a different story.
For idiosynchratic reasons, I only have one haircut every year and that is on St. Georges day when it all comes off down to the wood.s.

p.s. I use my license quite a lot as i.d. when opening savings accounts in person and I've never had any hassle, does that say something about our money laundering regs ?

Heh, idiosynchratic is good! Even if I'm not sure how to spell this. Who wants to be the same. My hair, at the tender age of 48, is so unserviceable that I save my pennies and just give it the once-over with a beard trimmer every few weeks! So, I'm happy to be bald. (No comb-overs here!)
Anyway, yes, we're just over the five year limit as far as passports go so can't run with the online option. But, thanks for the thought - and the good wishes too! Cancer really does mess with your mind - as well as everything else. One more chemo session to go!!!!

The lack of hair really has an impact too for a woman. As such, any current photo would not be a true likeness - as required. Indeed, she is barely recognisable from her former self.
I think we'll take the easiest option and submit an old photo - even though DVLA tell me I can't

You are allowed to wear a head covering (e.g. a wig) for medical reasons, if that helps.

The DVLA gives some examples of acceptable and unacceptable photos for the driving licence...

Thanks. I thought that head coverings related to surgery. Clearly the DVLA aren't on message here. Love the picts btw!
