My macbook can't find my external hard drive anywhere. It works on our mac-mini absolutely fine. We've tried the following:
  • usb ports are working fine
  • it's not to be found in system profiler or disk utility
  • we've checked the power supplies

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance for your help.

Is the drive powered by the USB or mains? Some mac laptops do not send enough power through the USB to power an external drive.

all fixed - it was a broken usb cable. Thanks though!

well i have to admit it does seem strange if it was because it worked on the macmini with (i am guessing) the same usb cable so why would it not work on the macbook.

but hey ho doesnt really matter if its working for the OP now then all is good
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
