I phoned someone today and their phone switched to a fax tone.
So they must have a fax machine that answers if they don't answer the voice call.
So I had to search on the net for a free internet fax service as I no longer have a fax modem connected to my computer.
I don't even have a phone line in the same room as my computer.
Then I got to thinking, if I had used my mobile instead of my landline, is there a way to send a fax from a mobile phone, or even a text, to a fax machine?

Indirectly, yes. With internet access on your mobile you could simply go to one of the few remaining websites that allow you to send faxes online for free or at a small cost.
Directly, I don't think so. The bit rate for fax modems is so low (2400 b/s IIRC) that nobody has been interested in working on them for decades now. Ok - businesses still use them, but I don't actually know anyone who has a fax machine anywhere other than at work, so it would IMO be of very limited use.0 -

Hi jason your reply does not answer my question as to sending a fax from my mobile phone. Yours suggestions all rely on an internet connection on my mobile phone.
I can use my computer to do that for free.
I take it it cannot be done then.0 -
That you want to do is only possible on PocketPC (Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 )with built in Modem. The software - KSE Truefax 2.1 Phone Edition II.I don`t know any recent phone to be able to send fax,but i will make some research.0
