Do I respect the views of posters - yes I do - but this is a Chat Forum and different opinions are welcomed. The only things that saddens me here is the constant repetitive spats that go on between disagreeing parties. And I would call on everyone to try and calm it down.

Sorry Martin, but I feel this is a cop-out, the boards have run smoothly for years ( odd hiccup when someone come on toutiong for business or giving duff advice / own agenda) - in the whole we have "self regulated" any issues.

Your forum users have been getting the benefit of FREE "advice" from a range of specialist ... these people have done so without the exposure that L&C gets , and the big possibility that consumers will use L&C or one of the no-advice routes you also list.

Given we are mostly all business owners, I do think that its a great indication of our ability to get on.

I think the least you could do is agree that when the majority is saying that one particular user is spoiling it, is to investigate it.

I trust you know this thread was more about this issue than the L&C issue - although don't you find the comments to date interesting on that point also?

It's not a cop out at all. This is a Chat Forum. This is not the site's view. Personally I always suggest people use a broker and do that everywhere I am interviewed reaching millions - I suspect I push more people to mortgage brokers than any other individual in the country!

However I have NEVER maintained that the Forums must follow my opinion. There can be disagreement. This is an open forum. Providing it is polite and reasoned and well meant I'm happy - even when I disagree with it.

What saddens me is when it becomes a regular spat. Yet policing and dealing with that is a nightmare... I'm not sure any of you realise quite the task that is faced and keeping things going here. Yes we have to draw the line somewhere, but someone criticising mortgage brokers isn't where I will draw it!

  • If it was L&C being attacked would you take the same view?

I appreciate that 'policing' a busy forum such as this isn't easy. However, this isn't a matter of the user in question simply 'critiscing mortgage brokers' - he has on several occasions made extremely rude, personal attacks to people based purely on their occupation or job industry. Not only that but the only 'input' he provides is the copy and pasting of links to your articles that in most instances bear no relation to the thread.

Oh, and of course spamming L&C in every thread and then ignoring people within the industry pointing out that L&C won't be helpful in that situation, etc.

I was going to throw my dolly out of the pram and leave ( like some other brokers already have) - although if we were all to do this the consumers visiting this site will lose out in the long run, but think I need a break, so sorry to anyone out there but for the next week I won't be answering any finance related queries

( before the cheers ring out - thats not to say I won't post on the site anymore )

  • I agree. I'm not going to post on here for a while either, at least a week bt I can't say how long, I'm too wound up and upset and I feel let down by Martin & the MSE team that this user is being allowed to ruin the site for everyone else, and that professionals who help out of the goodness of their hearts are being riddiculed and discredited in constant attack from one user.

I don't see why I should keep visiting and helping out on a website where I am constantly personally and professionally verbally attacked.

A complete lack of respect in my opinion.

I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!

If you felt sorry you could deal with the issue instead of making glib comments.

I suppose this forum is like society today, you get one or two idiots that cause the trouble yet no ones prepared to deal with them!

But then as long as everyones saving money who gives a **** about peoples emotions.
