I bought a pair of Levi jeans from House of Frazer when I was on holiday. When I went to remove the price ticket £80, when I was at home(it was a present for someone),underneath there was a price tickety of £75.!

I have never known shops to do this these days ,particularly not in House of Frazer.I rang the shop, and spoke to a member of Levi staff, they were no help,so I asked if it was possible to speak to a Manager, and they gave me someone who was "Senior Sales" I said i would rather speak to a Manager.I rang head office but they dont deal with complaints.

I spoke to the store Manager who said that he had been told to price over the old price by Head Office. He said he would send me the £5 in the post as he thought it looked bad.Yet I spoke to head office and they told me they don't make these kind of decisions, and I had been given incorrect information about them telling the store to price over.

The price of goods can increase as well as decrease. Its very time consuming for staff to have to sit and pick the labels off dozens of pairs of jeans etc so over pricing is common practice.

You were happy to pay the £80 before you saw the £75 ticket so I don't really see what the issue is. HOF are more than generous sending you the fiver because really you are entitled to nothing.

The jeans were on offer at £80, you paid £80. What have old labels got to do with it?
I'm sure there would have been no quibbles if the label said £2:50, with a price ticket for £80 underneath would there?

The store manager said it looked like "sharp practice".

I think the Manager was trying to keep the peace with you. Its's far from 'Sharp Practice'. There is nothing dishonest in a price increase now is there?

    Sharp Practice MEANS Dishonest!
You can use sharp practice to refer to an action or a way of behaving, especially in business or professional matters, that you think is clever but dishonest..

Three phonecalls plus the time for the calls and posting on here ... It has cost the OP more to chase it up than they have 'saved'!
    Gone ... or have I?

DS works in a call centre complaints Dept for a mobile phone chain. He took a call the other week from a rather disgruntled chap who'd been overcharged a massive 75p. Rather than complaining in store the next time he was in town he chose to go home and call the Customer Services line and stay on hold for 25 minutes. As DS can only authorise a refund to Store, customer then had to go into town and pay for parking to collect his cheque for 75p.

He would have been out a fiver or more for the sake of 75p. Now an overcharge is an overcharge and I'm not saying he should have let it lie, but all that fuss and stress over that?

I always find these sort of posts very irritating. The price has gone up by £5, its not a crisis as these things happen, yet there are phone calls to head office, to the shop, demands to speak to the manager (a senior sales assistant isn't good enough). Then after the manager had told you what had happened and promised to send you £5 (as a goodwill gesture) you then phoned Head Office again to check whether what he told you was accurate!

Its just absolutely ridiculous and massively over the top. I worry sometimes how much time people have on their hands!
