leeds bradford airport drive back up north - roads well lit?

hi, bit of a strange one. I don't like driving in the dark and my flight lands at about 11pm and will have to drive back up North from the airport, are the roads well lit up, does the a19 have lights all the way up on that stretch. If so i will be fine but otherwise

From LBA north takes you towards Harrogate, lots of unlit road that way - if you head into Leeds and then across onto the A1 it's much better though.

Not sure about the A19 as I use the A1 myself, where are you going?

Do the lights work on your car?

    If so, you'll be fine.

The windscreen wipers work on most people's cars but some still don't like driving in heavy rain. :)

should the OP really be driving if they are worried about driving in the dark.....

I'm guessing there's going to be some abuse heading my way now

I can't really understand this 'should the OP be driving' sentiment simply because they've said they're not a big fan of driving on pitch-black roads. As I've said, lots of people aren't fans of driving in certain conditions, whether it be heavy rain, fog, unlit roads at night and so on.

Just like some people aren't fans of motorways or others of narrow country lanes with lots of blind bends and no passing places.

Just because someone prefers driving on well-lit roads at night rather than unlit ones that doesn't mean they should be walking into their local DVLA office and handing over their driving licence. They're not unable to do it, just not a big fan of doing it.

    Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

    Hi OP
You would probably be better going via the A1 (M) to Darlington then A66 in to Middlesbourgh from there I assume you know your way. So the only problem will be getting from the airport to the A1(M) and whilst the roads (via Pool Bank ) are not lit they are quite easy to travel along and will be quiet at the time you are traveling. with a sat nav you should have no problem at all.

    Have a good holiday.

Fair points and I apologise if my earlier comment offended anyone.

The A1M is unlit from just north of the A64 split most of the way up past Darlington other than a couple of short stretches. There are also a lot of roadworks going on from the A1/A168 junction just north of Boroughbridge up to just south of Scotch Corner.

The A168 and A19 is virutally all unlit until you nearly get all the way up to just south of Stockton. It is then unlit from north of Middlesborough up to near Sunderland.

The A1 and A19 are multilane roads with everyone going in the same direction. It is unlit for around 75% of your journey.
