Budgeting for one week's holidays in Europe

Would be interested to hear what you would consider to be a reasonable budget for 2 adults and one child spending a week in Belgium.
The quotes I am getting are £ 500 for travel (two-ways) and £ 500 accommodation (in a static caravan at the coast). That does not even include spending money, food and day trips
I have looked into various options in term of travel but because we are living quite far away from a major airport/the SE coast all options are expensive and time-consuming.
I would rather not go but because we have family living over there the Head of the Family has degreed that we shall go
Thank you

£500 for accomodation doesn't sound too much, but £500 for travel does, what routes are you looking at?
If you have a Tesco clubcard you can use the points to book Eurotunnel or ferry crossings, they are worth three times the value, for for £25 you'd get £75 off.
Is it that you'd rather not go on holiday or you just don't want to go to Belgium?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I would drive and take the ferry/Eurotunnel etc from anywhere in the UK to Belgium. Treat the whole journey from the time you leave your home as the holiday
.
I'm not sure where you are based, but ferries go to Belgium from other ports other than the South East coast ones, don't they?0 -
Yes, you can get from Harwich to hook of Holland, then drive down to Belgium, although I think it's quite expensive, but may be worth it if you'd save a lot of petrol by not driving down to Dover and back.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

What time of year are you looking at, about £1000 is probably right for Aug (or maybe a bit less if you shop around), but should be a lot cheaper in June say.
You can get packages which include a ferry crossing eg keycamp, eurocamp, siblu. But probably cheaper DIY. If you're in the North you could consider a crossing from Hull, maybe overnight.0
