Avoid missing bits and making errors when filling it in and send it back 1st class post.

After that its upto them, Just hope it lands on the desk of someone new to the job and looking
to impress, Otherwise it could pass many hands before being processed.

    This.

Otherwise, you get no preferential treatment over anybody else all in the same boat. The wheels of the civil service traditionally turn very slowly and various checks do have to be made, but in fairness to DVLA, I've found they generally don't take too long to process simple applications where circumstances aren't too unusual.

Anyway, if you're worried about the time taken for a licence arrive, just wait until you have to book a practical driving test...

If you haven't sent the application yet, you could use the post office check and send service. They will check your application is correct and sent it special delivery. The post office will charge for this though. Apart from that, I don't believe there is a fast-track method (unlike passports).
If you will the end, you must will the means.

    Fair point, well made, Staffie.

There should be a fast track option.

After all, this is a Conservative government, and preferential treatment of the better-off is what we voted for.
