Please help. I'm am absolutely, completely, totally stupid when it comes to computers so please be gentle with me. I also apologise if this has been asked before.
We have had a desktop computer for several years but last week bought daughter a laptop. Contacted provider who sent out a wireless router? hub? (don't know what its called).
Anyway followed instructions and connected the wires.
But when DD is on internet on her laptop it initially connects up properly but then disconnects after 5 mins or so. Thought originally it was because she was in her bedroom and main computer in kitchen but even when she's in kitchen it happens.
I know it says to keep hub thingy away from electrical equipment but as it is also connected into our computer (by ethernet? cable) it has to stay close by.
Any advice?
Thanks.

Oh gosh - the selfsame thing is happening to me! I wonder who your provider is? I am with TalkTalk - I have mailed them but no reply as yet. When I saw your post, I hoped that someone would have provided an answer.... At least you know you are not the only one suffering with this issue.0

Assuming you are on broadband, your ISP should have supplied at least two microfilters, which plug in to the phone socket at the wired end, and your phone and router connects to the other end of the microfileter. In addition, you should fit these to every phone socket in the house.0

Hi I am also with TalkTalk and my connection is doing the same, it was on-off all evening and I am just trying to get on line this afternoon and it is still doing it I don't want to spend an hour on the phone now, but I will ring them tomorrow. I have done all the tests, switched the router off and on, stuck a pin in the reset button, and all the other things that they tell you so it has to be at their end.0

If the computer connected by cable has no issues then its the wifi. A quick scan of my local neighbourhood reveals 4 Talktalk wireless routers all on Channel 1 so I guess they leave the factory with that as the default. Chances are your router is on the same channel as someone else. Download and run InSSIDer on the laptop and scan to see what channels are clear. Log into the router, go to the control panel where you can change the wifi channel and change it to the clear one you found when doing the scan.0

Is this happening when someone picks up the phone? like another member said, you may need the filter!I'm not normally a religious man, but... if you're up there, save me, Superman!0
