I'm not sure if this is of interest, but I've just discovered an application called DVD Flick, which allows you to convert video files on your PC to a video DVD that will play on a standalone DVD player connected to a TV. You can also create a "menu page" that allow you to select an "episode" or "chapter" to watch, etc.

Sourceforge is a really good repository of open source software (which is all free). Here's a link to a search I did for "DVD" - looks like there a quite a few results. Hope some of them are of use!

Don't worry if you can't afford great software, if your son isn't familiar with video editing tools, then he would likely struggle with such advanced tools.
Start him off with some of the more basic (but still complicated) freebies first. I would recommend http://trac.videolan.org/vlmc/0 -

Hey, this is BabyEmily's son, and the programme that I currently use is Windows Movie Maker, but the programmes that I would like to use are Sony Vegas, and/or Flash After Effects. My mum cannot afford these, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Many thanks0 -
Do you get DLA for your son? If so, use some of that money which is for him to get him some software.0

Your Mum clearly didn't understand what level you were aiming at, but bless her little cotton socks for trying for you.
S'no wonder she can't afford the software though.
Good luck with your search.0 -
babyemily. usually the way it works is that for every big/popular program whether it be audio editing, video editing, graphical manipulation, OS's etc there is usually a host of very stable and very rich free alternatives out there that you can download & use at your own pleasure. search a few forums and see what other people recommend./ Like the other user said, Avidemux is a good one, but there are also loads of others, just take a look around, try a few (or all) and decide then. Dont spend money you dont need to. (and its not bad that you arent spending the money on him, there is no need to spend it)I'm not normally a religious man, but... if you're up there, save me, Superman!0
