Horse Insurance

Help... My Wife and i have owned a horse for nearly six years. Unfortunately the horse got an injury on his front left leg. The Vet was called and after weeks of treatment we sent the bill to our Insurance company and they reviewed the claim and paid the bill. The Insurance company then informed me that the left leg was now excluded from the policy. so if he got the same injury on the same leg they would not pay the bills. Four years on and our horse has now injured his front right leg. I called the Insurance company and explained the injury and i was informed that there would be no problems with the claim. So we filled in the Claim form and called the insurance company for some advice and also just to double check the procedure and they still maitained that all was fine and that the bills would be covered and paid. So naturally i thought that everything was fine, which took some of the worry of the shoulders. How wrong was I. The Insurance Company has now stated that because the injury is similar to the one he had on his left leg they will not pay for the treatment. Our Vet has told the Insurance company that this injury is not linked to the front left leg injury and we have asked why and how they can exclude a perfectly injury free leg because the opposite one had an injury. They informed me that the decision was made by there underwriters.
Can anyone please give me help and advice in this matter?
Many Thanks

Do you have their previous notice saying the left leg was excluded from then on in writing? If you have it in writing then you can use it to point out that it doesn't say "similar instances" "both front legs" or "all leg injuries". If they won't see sense approach the regulator to appeal.
I definitely feel your pain. A friends horse managed to hurt his leg on a barbed wire fence last month and the vet bills are huge even after the insurance payout!0 -
name and shame them.0

Definately find the letter they sent and also review your last renewal. It is highly possible that they subsequently endorsed the policy to include similar injuries.0
