Labrador Hair!!!

OMG I'd forgotten how much labradors moult!
I had labradors as a child and teen and dont remember my mum hoovering 3 times a day.
A question for all you Lab owners. My Daisy is coming up for 1 in June. Beautiful laid back doggie (unlike my springer who was as potty as a box of frogs!)
Her fur is getting very thin around her chest area under her arns and her back legs at the front. Shes not scratching, or in pain and the area isnt red. Do they normally loose the hair from here when they are moulting in the summer?
Shes Golden so maybe thats why it notices more.
If she starts to get more patchy i'll take her for a trip to the vets, just thought it might be a "thing" with them.

I'm no expert but maybe its just thinner there as it rubs off more in those areas? Hard to tell when she's young and not gone thru a whole year of seasonal changes.
What do you brush her with? Furminators are good.
I always remember as a kid walking to school would meet a GR, loved pulling all the tufts of fur out of her coat! Any little ones want a job to do in the garden?!!
Oh and any chance of a pic please?!Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -
Another vote for the furminator here.
They were on sale on Amazon not long ago...
Click on the picture above and se the reviews, they are £28.86 now but look around for cheaper price - just make sure you buy the original as there are few copies around...
That is for shedding - thinner patches no idea.. Are you giving fish oil to your dog? It is great for skin/fur...0 -
Yep got one of them, they are great...I only brush her back and neck to tail....I leave the underneath. I'll see how she goes, it doesn't bother her, and there is def no iritation there. Must remember to get some more hoover bags later..lol0

My golden retriever is awful for shedding an absolute nightmare! After 11 years still hoping for a miracle to stop the shedding, you can brush and brush and have tried everything (including attachment to vac which she hated and we gave up, because she hated it) and after brushing she still sheds - how can 1 dog have so much fur!0

my lab cross sheds terribbly too - her hair also seemed to be a bit sparse underneath especially on tummy area but in the last 6 months seems to have become thicker -she's just 3. so maybe it is due to her age.Frump to Fab - Solstice Sizzler

My Lab used to shed her coat a couple of months after each season. It was definitely more a hormonal thing rather than the time of year. If she is an indoor dog, has recently had a season and the weather is warmer - losing a lot of coat seems perfectly normal.
Luckily mine used to LOVE being hoovered and would stand in the way of it when I put the extension hose on!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
My lab's thinner underneath- seems to be normal for her? She's terrible for shedding- two minutes in the house results in shedding everywhere. Have joked that in one day, we could stuff a pillow. Gold fur follows her in the air.0

My labrador/whippet cross sheds hair like you wouldn't believe! Seems to have stopped now but from about March till beginning of May the dog hairs got everywhere. He usually has a second shedding around end of August...surprised there's anything of him left!
My other dog's a Golden Retriever cross and only sheds a tiny bit, fortunately!0 -
Our lab shed about twice a year, though shes only 2 on weds so still time to change, lol. Last year when she shed her winter coat it was terrible (would have been her first winter coat), she came specifically into the living room to itch her back on the rug and the rug would then turn black!!! This time around its not been so bad, although having to hoover every day, its not coming out in clumps...yet, lol. Also we've took her swimming a lot this time, lots of trips to beach and river so think she loses a lot in the water too. Molly's hair is also thinner underneath and under her arm pit bits too, always has been so guess its just how some are.0

I think the amount of hair my black lab sheds is directly related to the amount of food he manages to scavenge when he's out for a walk.....
Barely an hour after I 'd put the hoover way, I walked into my bedroom and it was like I had only dreamed I'd just vacuumed the entire house!0
