SanDisk Cruzer - does not work properly - SOLVED

Have a 16GB SanDisk Cruzer memory stick which used to work perfectly. It has U3 software and my data is password protected. I use it once every month or two to back up my data.
The only thing i can think of that may have started the problem is when i used a hp flashdrive v165w. Each memory stick tend to install their own software.
Before when i insert the scandisk, a program is launched. I type in my password and the folder is accessible. Now when i insert the stick, the light flashes slowly. Two drives appear in the computer folder.
U3 system (G:)
Removable Disk (H:)
When i click on U3 system (G) it opens a folder listing 3 files. One of which is LaunchU3.exe When i click on this it opens another folder.
When i click on Removable Disk (H) it says 'please insert a disk into drive H'
Any advice?

Update - have tried it on another laptop which is running vista. It works.
When i plug it back into mine, which runs xp, no luck. The curser flickers as if there is a program that is trying to start but fails. On the vista machine a folder comes up asking what i want to do with the stick etc.
It may seem that the autoplay software may have become corrupt on my machine for this stick. How can i solve it?Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Have a look at autorun for XP and for other removeable media
http://autorun.moonvalley.com/enable.htm
Has your anti virus programme disabled autorun?
Or have any windows updates disabled it as knocking off autorun seems to be the in thing0 -
