The ones that end up in court are those that use an approaching emergency vehicle as a reason to sail right through a set of lights. If there is an opportunity for the one car blocking my progress to move slightly forward and out of my way it is easily done without going thriugh the entire junction.

The reason why the blue lights must remain on is obvious but most will turn the siren off whilst there is no opportunity to make progress. The LFB seem to have a new rule that means the sirens must stay on all the time. The only time the police and ambulance are guaranteed to have the sirens on all the time is when passing a fire station when they are on strike. As even when on strike they made sure they got a good nights kip, in East London at least.

What were you doing in the bushes?

And crucially, what was your excuse for being there?

"I'm just adjusting my Lycra tights, officer"

i am guessing they meant inbetween himself and the road the police car was driving along, there was some bushes, that they could still see the police car through:p:D

Funnily enough the Traffic Sarge in my home town got kicked back to the beat after doing the very same thing. Nobody could figure out why, if he had driven at the same speed without the noise on nobody would have noticed.

Really; who? Because, as far as I am aware, an exception is allowed for this.

Can you provide a citation for this exception?

It seems to me that if you go through a red light while trying to let an emergency vehicle through and inadvertently cause a collision with another car, possibly even a fatality, they won't be holding the emergency vehicle responsible. :)

It would be the fault of the emergency vehicle. They are called "proximity accidents".

We were warned about them on our driving course.

I once went through 2 red lights, down a one way street the wrong way and turned right against the traffic when followed by the police and was never charged even though I was drunk.:beer:
counting down the time I got left.:beer:
