Oh dear, this all sounds very dodgy to me. Paying cash to someone you don't know, what would be your back up plan if it all goes wrong?

Sounds like one of those dodgy Gumtree scams

take them into your bank, let them give the bank teller in your bank the account details and sort code of their account and transfer the money, if it comes down to cash make sure you do the transfer inside a bank, many people have been mugged on their way to pay large sums of cash for cars, you dont say what the item is, but it does all sound dodgy

Sounds very dodgy to me too. Any normal person would prefer a bank transfer as that's a lot of cash to hand over and carry around. I reckon you're being conned here.

@Funkyfreddy - AFAIK, those are offices, not branches - I know for a fact that the one in Manchester is a "centre".

Also the RBS/Natwest branches won't be allowed to accept any cash amount for £5k or more.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p
  • Is there a whiff of money laundering here, I know that in the past gangs work on dealing in lots of smaller amounts funnily enough around the £25,000 mark. Could be perfectly innocent but its a lot of money to lose.
  • hmm this sounds fishy

Im amazed why so many people post such unhelpful replies. If you havent got anything useful to say, dont.

Anyway Kev, the only 2 ways to transact that sum of money and make sure you get the goods is
    (a) cash in hand at the time (with its obvious limitations)
    (b) an escrow service, but find one yourself, do not let the seller suggest one as there are too many dodgy ones out there.

    Hope this helps.
