Would recommend the Foundling Museum, though it's heartbreaking too. The Foundling Hospital was founded in the 1700s as a place for women to take their children to if they couldn't afford to keep them. Part of the exhibition is a display of little tokens some of the mothers had left with their babies - sometimes just a button or a ribbon, but absolutely heartbreaking. It's very interesting to visit.
It's only a short walk from the Charles Dickens Museum so you could easily do both on the same day and then perhaps explore Lincoln's Inn Fields http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln's_Inn_Fields which is nearby.0
